Molnár, C. Pál: After the bath
Private collection - Hungary

Description

A XX. One of the great personalities of Hungarian painting in the 19th century was Pál C. Molnár, who was an excellent painter, but also a genius master of drawing and graphics. During his work, he mostly respected the classical traditions, but he did not forget the trends of his time, he was able to live with the traditions of Art Nouveau, symbolism, surrealism, and the school of Nagybánya, incorporating them into his art.
In his work he used the techniques of woodcut and lithography, his illustrations for significant literary works, his ink drawings and posters for the famous Est newspapers.
At the same time, of course, his painting activity, which really unfolded with Pál C. Molnár from the 1950s in the form of church, landscape and self-portraits, is not negligible either.
One of her late works, evoking the form of the female figures in the Est sheets, is "Bathing Nude," which depicts a young lady "wrapped in a white veil" in the moments after bathing. Pál C. Molnár traveled to Geneva in 1918, where he developed his skills in a self-taught way, painting plein-air style pictures during the Swiss years, and studying and drawing the movements of beautiful women. During his career, the master was certainly impressed by this pleasant memory, and his oil painting entitled "Bathing Nude" could have been created to relive this experience. brush but also the pencil with a sure hand.
